ChargeUp Europe Board Statement: E-mobility is happening right before of our eyes
E-mobility is happening right before of our eyes. As it becomes mainstream, the EU must focus on minimising the remaining friction and ensuring choice for consumers through an open and interoperable market.
Market momentum is vigorous. Recent global events show why electrifying road transport is the right course: it delivers savings for consumers, gives us greater control over the energy that powers our economies, and positions Europe to lead in the markets that will shape tomorrow's competitiveness.
But even without exceptional geopolitical circumstances, the e-mobility transition is well underway. It is supported by growing consumer uptake of BEVs and by falling average battery prices that keep improving the underlying economics. These market fundamentals continue to underpin the energy transition.
EV drivers today have more choice than ever, with charging infrastructure having grown alongside, and in many cases, ahead of demand: the sector has invested and delivered. EV charging companies are also competing hard to offer EV drivers an experience that is seamless and consumer-centric.
The next phase is about building on that success and delivering it at greater scale.
As the market matures, Europe must remove the remaining friction for drivers and businesses, including grid connection and permitting bottlenecks, while giving investors the confidence to keep scaling infrastructure and freeing the EV charging sector to innovate, from new consumer offerings to grid services. This requires a stable and predictable policy environment that leaves room for new business models to emerge and does not lock out tomorrow's solutions.
We’ve got this, so let’s stay the course.
